Type A

Type A is a nice little horizontal shooter that I was in two minds about puting it on here because I don’t really get it but some thing brings me back to it once in a while. It’s your basic horizontal shooter where you have an every increasing amount of heads and small men coming towards you who try their best to finish you off which sometimes is easy for them because their bullets tend to get mixed up the diamonds and hand bags to mention two things that get left behind once you shoot one of them for you to collect so it can be quite hard. Graphics are hand draw and look very nice indeed as does the scrolling back drop very nice. Controls are Cursor keys to move, Z keys is your primary weapon and X key is your special weapon or you can use a game pad. Most of you will not like this but a few may so give it a go and see.

War On Bugs

Who ever thought bugs would be a danger well in this vertical shmup they are and I’m not talking your nasty bugs I’m talking butterflies and lady birds the nice kind of bugs who are intent on destroying you. To defeat them you get to choose from two characters who each have three different kinds of fire pattern choose wise though to defeat the onslaught and once playing there are plenty of power ups for you to collect so you soon build you fire power up. Trying to stop you there are bugs of many kinds some little some big and also some pretty impressive bosses for you to defeat. visuals are very nice and colourful and work really well as do the music and sound effects that play along. Controls Are Cursor keys to move, Z key is your primary weapon, X key is your special weapon and C key is your bomb you can also use a game pad if you wish. It may only be three levels long but it’s well worth a download.

Space Octopus

Space Octopus isn’t the best game in the world but has a few nice touches so thought it deserved a show. It s vertical shooter that plays kind of like space invaders you have level after level of hand drawn enemies coming towards you and all you have to do is clear each level to move to the next and move up in rank. There are a few power ups to help you along the way but they only last for a short while before you revert back to your one and only weapon. Graphics are hand drawn and its all in black and white but there are a few nice graphical touches here and there. Controls are Left Key to go left Right Key to go right and Up Key to fire nice and simple. It won’t suit everyone but if you like to get high scores give it a go.

Zugangagang

Heres a nice little game with a very strange name but a real tough one this it’s a vertical boss battle with a hell of a lot of bullets and when I say a lot you will need all your skills to dodge them. you get to choose from three characters to play and then you get to choose which boss you want to do battle with if you get the right pairing then things are easy but if you don’t be prepared for the fight of your life because once the bullets start to fly they are none stop. To help you get two weapons a primary and special and you can also send your drones in front of you to destroy incoming bullets to clear a path for you. Graphics are nice and colourful and have a retro kind of feeling to them but are pleasant to look at. Controls are Cursor keys to move, Z key is your primary weapon, X key is your special weapon and C key sends your drones forward of you. This one will take some beating but well worth a download.

Merubyiusu

Today I bring a nice little horizontal browser shmup I found over on Indie Games. It’s quite a cute looking little shooter really but don’t be fooled by cute looks because this is in fact quite a hard little game to crack but to help you get one main weapon and a special weapon that you have to collect power ups for each power up changes before you collect it to give you a choice of three different weapons. The only thing is you either use your primary fire power or your special you can’t use both at once and as you progress you find yourself changing between the two as the action on-screen becomes quite hectic as you progress through the game with all manner of enemies being thrown at you and some pretty mean bosses too. Visuals are nice and retro which I really like and quite cute as I said. Controls are Cursor Keys to move, X Keys is your primary weapon and C Key is what you use to change to your special weapon. It’s well worth a try when you have a few minutes to spare.

OutZone

As they aren’t many new shmups out there at the minute I thought for today I would bring you an old arcade classic that can now be played in your browser that classic for me is OutZone. OutZone isn’t your normal shooter in that you control a guy on the ground instead of a space ship but it’s still a good shooter and when is was first released it was a pretty awesome game and still plays well today. You get loads of different enemies coming at you as was the case in a good arcade shooter but you have more than enough fire power to deal with anything that is thrown at you and there are also plenty of power ups for you to collect. Graphics and sound are still quite good by todays standards although in its day they were some of the best in this kind of game. Controls are Cursor keys to move X Key is your fire button and C Key is your special weapon. Not a hard game this but still worth a blast today.

Sapharica

Sapharica is a vertical shooter that I fond over on DoujinStyle and I was quite surprised at just how harder game this was to play infact it’s one of the hardest I’ve come across in a long time. You get to choose form three characters when you start each with a different firing style so choose carefully once you decide the battle begins right from the word go because this a bullet hell game that never seems to start throwing bullets at you so it’s one for the hardened shmup fan to play to help you out you get plenty of power ups and you will need them all so be sure not to miss any and also a very handy special weapon again use it carefully because the bosses at the end of levels are very difficult indeed not forgetting the amount of bullets they fire at you. Graphics are nice and detailed and there is cool dance music thumping away in the background to keep your pulse pumping hard. Controls are Cursor Keys to move, Z Key is your fire button and X Keys is your special weapon. Bullet hell fans will love this one.

Armored Ashura

I bring you a cool little horizontal browser game today that will give even the hardened shmup fan a run for their money. Armored Ashura is you standard type of shooter with plenty of power ups for you to collect along the way and you tend to find that collecting them when you see them means that you need them to get through the next load of enemies who are trying to destroy you with everything they have you don’t need to collect them sometimes it just makes things a little more easy. I also found that the end of level boss on all levels are quite hard to finish off so you will need dodging skills to avoid the onslaught of bullets they fire at you. You only get one weapon but if you don’t fire for a short time you get a short powerful blast when you press fire again. Graphics are nice a detailed with a great rock background music to keep the excitement up. controls are Mouse only which is a shame but you can’t have everything well worth a go this one.
