Mayakai
Mayakai is a strange horizontal shooter I came across on Indiegames . It’s not a bad little shooter with only four levels but I don’t quite get some of the enemies that are contained with it. You get to shoot all manor of things from birds to flowers to toys and some very elegant picture frames as well they might be strange but everyone of these tries to destroy you in a hale of bullets. To help you get a choice of two characters to choose from each with their own strengths and each have three weapons at their disposal all of which you need if you wish to beat the massive end of level bosses which are also very strange looking. Visuals looks like hand drawn graphics and they are very detailed and colourful so the whole game looks nice and plays smoothly. Controls are Cursor Keys to Move, Z Keys is your Primary weapon, X is one Special Weapon and C Key is the other you can also use a game pad if you wish. If you like you bad guys strange looking give this a go.

Exceed 3rd Jade Penetrate – Black Package
After a long wait the first trial for Exceed 3rd The Black Package has finally arrived and I’m pleased to say that it is looking mighty good compared to some of the other Exceed games. This version has ticked all the boxes so far you have loads of enemies and some huge mid level bosses and more than anything it has some really nice bullet patterns for you to dodge your way through and the end of level bosses seem to take an age to destroy. To help you have three weapons to choose from you have your primary weapon and you have lock on lasers and if they fail you have your bombs to destroy everything in your path. The visuels and music are both excellent through out and complement each other all the time. Controls are Cursor Keys to Move, Z is your Primary Weapon, X is your Lock On Lasers and C Key is your Bombs or you can use a game pad if you like. This is a must for any fan of the series.

Impetuth
A vertical shooter with a difference this one in fact some may not class it as a shmup so I’ll let you decide. Instead of a space ship you control a knight who wanders around the screen shooting various different things from blobs of jelly to trees yes I said trees. To help you out you can collect different weapons by destroying wooden chests that appear around the place each with it’s own surprise inside you also get to collect other knights who will then help you along the way also it has some of the hardest Bosses I’ve every seen in a game so what looks easy to start soon gets very difficult. Visuals a nice and detailed and have that Amiga look about them but better and it plays very smooth. Controls are Cursor KEys to Move, Z or X Key is you fire button because you only get one weapon at a time to use you can also use a game pad if you wish. Like shumps with a difference give this a go.

Dancing Marina
I’m not sure where they found the name for this one but I’m guessing the Marina is the name of the girl you control in this browser based vertical shooter. It’s quite a hard game to get your teeth into things start nice and easy but soon become more difficult as you progress. Various enemies come towards you as do floating islands and guided mines that you don’t want to be anywhere near when they go off and to help you along you get few different weapons which change as you power up and if you can’t avoid the on coming baddies just dive under the water to miss them. Visuals are quite good and there is a thumping sound track playing in the background. Controls are Cursor keys to move, Z key is your primary weapon and X is to make you dive under the water. If you have a spare few minutes give this one a go.

The screen shots on this are looking very nice indeed.
Boom Go Go
This is a strange one for you to try its a vertical shooter with a slight twist to it not only to you have to deal with enemies but you also have to avoid objects that try to slow you down and that’s where this is different because it’s all about speed. If you don’t just the baddies quick enough they slow you down as do objects and whilst you are slowing down a massive fire wall is edging its way up the screen to devour your. You only get one weapon which you can power up to help but this is a very difficult game to master. Visuals are great nice colourful pixel graphics though out so it loos very nice indeed. Controls are Cursor keys to move and Ctrl keys is your main weapon. Its worth a try if you like fast games.

Strange name this one but not a bad little retro shmup. What we have here is a vertical bullet hell shmup and it is a bullet hell never have I seen so many bullets. The aim shoot as much as you can and last as long as possible because there is no end to this it just keeps going on and on with the difficulty getting harder as you and the bullets getting more and more. To help you have one weapon with two types of shot your have normal fire anf concentrated fire and that’s all you get. Now for the retro bit the visuals are straight out of Space Invaders and the music that plays along is from the Sega Master System days and it all just binds together the make a cool shooter. Controls Cursor Keys to move, Z Keys is normal fire and X Keys is concentrated fire. At a 180kb download this has to be worth a look.

Mikkus Taiken
I’ve got a very Japanese vertical shmup for you all to try here. Its hard to describe this game because its so Japanese unless you have an understanding about this kind of game it’s just trial and error to see whats going on having said that this is quite a good bullet hell shmup with lots of things to shoot. You get one weapon and what only can be described as a shield that you tend to find yourself using alot and you can upgrade your main weapon by collecting the musical notes that are left behind every time you kill a bad guy. Visuals are very colourful and pretty and as I said very Japanese including the music that plays away in the back ground. Controls are cursor Keys to move, Z is your primary weapon and X is your shield and that’s pretty much it. If Jap shmups are your thing its worth a go.

Aurorablast – Updated
Way back in April I posted about this nice looking vertical shump see here and I’m pleased to say that at long last it has been updated. You now get three levels to fight your way through with plenty of new enemies and bosses for you to tackle. I said at the time that this is worth watching and I’m happy to say the update is a massive improvement on the first demo so its been well worth the wait for this update. There isn’t one thing I can say bad about this the visuals are great game play is great and the haunting music that plays through out just adds a nice touch. You must download this now. Controls are as before so I won’t bother boring you with them now go download.
