Duality ZF

Now I don’t normally post about console games but with this game for the Xbox 360 I’m willing to make an exception. Duality ZF is a vertical shmup from Xona Games. Its old school 2D action with some really cool looking visuals that are very detailed and make the game very nice to look at. As the game isn’t released yet I’ve not had chance to get my hands on it but looking at the video of the game and the screen shots this is looking to be one hell of a game check it out now!! and as soon as it’s released I’ll be posting it here.

Edens Aegis

I’m back with another classic Japanese shump for you all to try. Edens Aegis is a vertical shooter however this is only a demo but if the finished product lives up to this demo your in for a treat. This is what you’d call a bullet hell shooter because I ain’t seen some many bullets in some of the best looking patterns for a long time so plenty of dodging to do and as with most shmups you get a mid level boss as well as end of level boss which take some beating. To help you along you have three weapons which are your primary weapon then your first special weapon and last of all you bomb which clears pretty much everything on screen. Visuals are nice and colourful and at time the screen is a mass of different colours so can be a little hard to see whats going on but your eyes soon get used to it. Controls are Cursor keys to move, Z Key is your primary weapon, X Key is your first special weapon and C Key is your bomb and you can also use a joy pad if you like. There’s not many new shumps out there at the minute so don’t let this one pass you by.

Ultra Galaxy War

Ultra Galaxy War is a nice little gem of a game that you will either like or hate. I like it because it’s a simple shump that you don’t have to think much about you can just blast away all you like whilst avoiding the hordes or enemies and asteroids that are coming towards you in ever increasing numbers. You do however haves loads of power ups to help you along the way which appear often so you not left alone with just your primary weapon how ever they don’t stay with you forever you only get use them for a short period of time. Visuals are nice and detailed and are of the pixel kind which I think make games look the part. Controls are Mouse only with your left mouse button for your primary weapon.

Infinity Squadron

A nice little vertical shmup for you to try here in fact I would say that it is a bullet hell shmup because things might start off easy but within a short time there are more bullets and enemies on the screen than you can deal with so be prepared for some quick reflex usage. To help you only get one weapon that if you tap the fire key you get a spread shoot and if you had the fire key down you get a more straight line of fire that has more power to it so you might find yourself using this a lot. Visuals have a nice Commodore 64 style of graphic and are quite detailed and with a matching tune playing along in the back ground so it feels very retro to play. Controls are Cursor Keys to Move and Z Key is your Fire button. Well worth a try if you like rock hard shooters. The file you download is called waves but its the same game before the author changed it.

Galagian

Galagian as it sounds is a kind of Galaga remake if you like with a mix of a few other games. I’ve been playing it a while and it’s quite enjoyable and has that I’ll give it one more try factor. As I said it’s like Galaga only in this one you get to collect power ups along the way to help you out and on later levels you need that extra help. Visuals have been bought up to date and look very nice as does the thumping dance music playing away in the background and there are quite a few different enemies for you to destroy. It’s mouse control to keep things nice and easy although the keyboard controls also work but aren’t that good. If you like your shooters retro it’s well worth a go.

Simple Shmup

This is a vertical shooter that as the name says is a simple shmup. There is no deep plot which you need to understand all you need to do is blast the hell out of the ever advancing enemy and try to stay alive. The thing I really like about this game is the simple but retro graphics used through out the game it’s almost like playing a Nintendo NES game not only with the graphics but also with the music that plays away in the background which are totally retro. As I said there’s not a lot to it really but its very addictive because the further you go the more you get coming towards you some die with one shot some with three or four you never know it’s just down right fun. controls are Cursor keys to move and Z key to fire.

Armalyte

This is a brilliant remake of the classic Commodore 64 classic horizontal shmup Armalyte. If you never played the original then you must give this a try because its from when shmups where from hard to complete because the level of difficulty was always very hard however it kept you coming back for just one more try time and time again. It has all the classic elements of a shmup power ups bosses wave after wave of enemies however the power ups are nothing like they are today. The visuals and sound and music have all been revamped and it looks very nice indeed and the guys who remade this are the best re-makers out there at the minute in fact most of what they do is normally freeware and can be found over on Retro Remakes . Controls are keyboard or joy pad so choose which you prefer from the main menu. If you like rock hard shmups give this a go.

Galaxy Invaders

A nice little Space Invaders update for you too spend you lunch breaks on. There’s not a great deal to say other than it has need updated visuals and each level the invaders are set in a different pattern just to make things look different. Everything else is the same as Space Invaders you only get the one weapon but it’s more than enough. Controls are Cursor Keys to move and Space to fire. If you like getting high scores this is the game for you.
